Mmaboshadi (Shadi) Chauke was appointed as the Group Executive: Corporate Affairs and Sustainability on 1 November 2024. Shadi brings a unique blend of strategic leadership, financial acumen, and a creative approach to the Sanlam brand and its sustainability. She has a passion for her country and its people that deeply aligns with Sanlam’s north star to empower current and future generations to be financially confident, secure and prosperous.
A Chartered Accountant and an accomplished business leader, Shadi brings extensive experience as a finance, social entrepreneurship and creative professional. She is a former registered auditor, having served as an audit partner at Deloitte, South Africa, and is a former finance executive having served as a Finance senior manager at Standard Bank of South Africa Limited and as a Chief Financial Officer at Urban Brew Studios (Pty) Ltd.
She is also a former non-executive director, having served on the boards and committees of large JSE-listed and unlisted companies in the financial services, insurance, healthcare, retail and microfinance sectors.
She founded Vahluri Advisory Services, a social impact advisory firm, where she drove transformative social impact initiatives across various industries. She was also a freelance actress, and a television and film producer, having worked for notable productions on South Africa’s television and film broadcasting networks.
Shadi graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree (2001) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree (2000). She is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and of the Institute of Directors South Africa.
