Tava was appointed as Executive Director for the Santam Group from 1 April 2022 and effective from 1 July 2022 assumed responsibility as Group CEO. He is a versatile business leader with more than 20 years of extensive experience in the financial services sector within South Africa, Africa and Europe.
Previously, Tava was Group CEO of Britam Plc, a Kenya-listed financial services company operating across 7 countries in East and Southern Africa. He is also a former CEO for the UK and Ireland region of Swiss Re Group. Tava also served as Swiss Re’s Managing Director and Market Executive for the Middle East and Africa. He spent 16 years with the Old Mutual Group, and during that time was Regional CEO for South and East Africa, with a portfolio of 14 African countries spanning the full financial services value chain. Tava has also been COO of Old Mutual Africa, CEO of Old Mutual Kenya and CEO of Old Mutual Nigeria.
Tava, who holds a BBusSc degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town, has also completed advanced studies in management at INSEAD Business School and Harvard University (GMP). He is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.
